Multi Hover Effect On Blogger Images Using Pure CSS

Posted by Unknown

Today I'm going to show you how to add an amazing mouseover effect for Blogger images using only CSS, in which moving your mouse over an image from different directions (from above, from below, etc) will cause an overlay transitioned in from the same vector. This trick will change not only the images appearance when moving mouse over them, but will also allow you to add inside a text with a description.

hover effect, mouseover, blogger hover effects

You can see the effect on this image below: try moving your mouse from the left, right, and above.

Adding Hover Effect From Different Directions on Blogger Images

First thing to do is to add the CSS style to our Template:

Step 1. From Blogger Dashboard, go to Template and press the Edit HTML button

Step 2. Search for the </head> tag - to find it, click anywhere inside the code area, press CTRL + F keys and type it in the search box.

Step 3. After you found it, add the following style just above it:
<style>
  /* The container and the image */
  div.multi-hover {
    overflow: hidden;
    position: relative;
    vertical-align: middle;
    width: 100%;
    height: 358px;
    line-height: 358px;
  }
  div.multi-hover img {width: 100%;}

/* The texts that, by default, are hidden */
  div.multi-hover span {
    color: #FFF;
    font-size: 32px;
    font-weight: bold;
    height: 100%;
    opacity: 0;
    position: absolute;
    text-align: center;
    transition: all 0.3s linear 0s;
    width: 100%;
  }

/* And this is what will generate the effect */
  div.multi-hover span:nth-child(1) { /* right */
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 rgba(255, 189, 36, 0.6);
    left: 90%;
    top: 0;
  }
  div.multi-hover span:nth-child(2) { /* top */
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 rgba(106, 170, 255, 0.6);
    left: 0;
    top: -80%;
  }
  div.multi-hover span:nth-child(3) { /* left */
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 rgba(204, 87, 166, 0.6);
    left: -90%;
    top: 0;
  }
  div.multi-hover span:nth-child(4) { /* bottom */
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0  rgba(97, 181, 115, 0.6);
    left: 0;
    top: 80%;
  }

  div.multi-hover span:hover {opacity: 1;}
  div.multi-hover span:nth-child(2n+1):hover {left: 0;}
  div.multi-hover span:nth-child(2n):hover {top: 0;}

</style>
Step 4. Save the Template

Now we are going to add the HTML that is nothing but a DIV where we included four SPAN tags with texts and an image:

Step 5. Choose Posts, create a New Post, click on the HTML tab (1) and paste this code inside the empty box:
<div class=multi-hover>
  <span>hover right</span>
  <span>hover top</span>
  <span>hover left</span>
  <span>hover bottom</span>
  <img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigRXcW3_RBTHIjBPh0-FBD-ESmTldJLFCd0RaOQwI0oHt97ynkU7jz6wrcPF1gCYZMlX3TK-YElUmN7NlH8LE8W9hgiOHMgpyza3V7q3wSvWdbb2EG6LGs86Wxyeh_geK5ncx3AK73SH4/s1600/flowers">
</div>
Add your own text/description to "hover right", "hover top", "hover left" and "hover bottom" (2) and replace the url in blue with the image URL (3) where you want to apply the effect.

Important! Do not click on the Compose tab, otherwise the changes will be lost.

Step 6. After you finished editing your post, click Publish (4)

And that's it... enjoy! :)

Posted by Unknown

social media icons, facebook icons, social media icons for bloggerThis tutorial will help you to add social media icons in the top right corner of the page which could increases the likelihood that readers can follow through the various social networks. There are several ways to do this, like adding a new widget section to the blog header but now, we'll do it using an unordered list that uses icons of Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and blog feed, and as a bonus, the icons will rotate when you hover over them.

You can see a demo in this test blog.

Adding Social Media Icons to Blogger Header

Step 1. From your Blogger dashboard, go to Template and click on the Edit HTML button:

blogger blogspot, blogger template, blogger gadgets

Step 2. To expand the style, click on the small arrow on the left of <b:skin>...</b:skin> (screenshot 1), then click anywhere inside the code area to search (using CTRL + F) for the ]]></b:skin> tag (screenshot 2) and add this code just above it:

 /* Social icons for Blogger
----------------------------------------------- */

#social-icons {
margin-bottom:-30px;
height:50px;
width:100%;
display:block;
clear:both;
z-index: 2;
position: relative;
}
.social-media-icons {
display:table
}
.social-media-icons ul {
text-align:right;
padding:5px 5px 0 0
list-style-image:none;
list-style-position:outside;
list-style-type:none;
}
.social-media-icons ul {
margin-bottom:0;
padding:0;
float:right;
}
.social-media-icons li.media_icon {
margin-left:6px;
padding-left:0 !important;
background:none !important;
display:inline;
float:left;
}
.social-media-icons li:hover {
-moz-transform: rotate(360deg);
-webkit-transform: rotate(360deg);
-o-transform: rotate(360deg);
transform: rotate(-360deg);
-moz-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
-webkit-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
-o-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
-ms-transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
transition: all 0.5s ease-in-out;
}

Step 3. Now search for this line

<b:section class='header' id='header' maxwidgets='1' showaddelement='no'>

Step 4. And just above it, add this code:

<div class='social-media-icons' id='social-icons'>
<ul>

<li class='media_icon'><a href='http://facebook.com/username'><img border='0' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGqKyddHLfoux-IfgqYPC2W-jKKl-ruPIEdfwx3Dvs0XJ1sxWwTHC6I4MZpGleDal7FH5sTKSRrcy3nu7Jv8WWQ9lF2hqSU4-edHpBtZk2hrcd-Csfwj8Ya7whsWtoskhnIiGJuy2C6ik/s1600/Facebook.png'/></a></li>

</ul></div>

Customization

- Change what's in red with your usernames and id: the first is your Facebook username, the second is that of Twitter, in the third you should change the X by the ID of your Google+ profile and in the fourth you will put the name of your blog.
- To change the icons, just replace the urls in blue with the ones of your images.
- You can add more icons if you want, you just have to add before </ul></div> a line like this for each extra icon you want:

<li class='media_icon'><a href='Link URL'><img border='0' src='Image URL'/></a></li>

Step 5. Finally, Save the Template to apply the changes.

The effect is done with CSS3, so this effect will not work in older browsers.

Fading Box With Newer/Older Posts Links and Titles for Blogger

Posted by Unknown

The navigation links are those that appear at the bottom of the page that says "Older Posts", "Newer Posts" and "Home" and help us to move through the blog posts. This tutorial will show you how to change the word "Older Posts" and "Newer Posts" for post titles and make these to appear in a box "fading" when you scroll down the page.
blogger gadgets, navigation for blogger

You can see it in action on this demo blog - when you scroll down, the navigation links will appear showing the post titles for the older/newer entries.

This way to display the navigation links will be seen only in individual entries, while those on the homepage and other parts of the blog will still be displayed as usual.

How to Add Navigation Box with Newer & Older Posts on Blogger

Step 1. From your Blogger Dashboard, go to Template > Edit HTML, click anywhere inside the code area and search - using CTRL + F - for this line:

<b:include name='nextprev'/>

Screenshot:

Step 2. REPLACE the code above with this one:

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType != &quot;item&quot;'>
<b:include name='nextprev'/>
</b:if>
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
<div id='blog-pager-box'>
<h4>Other posts published:</h4>
<b:include name='nextprev'/>
</div>
</b:if>

Note: you can change the "Other posts published" title with your own

Step 3. Now add just above </head> the following code:

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
<script src='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.8.2/jquery.min.js' type='text/javascript'/>
<script>
// <![CDATA[
$(function() {
$('#blog-pager-box').toggle()

height: '150px',
position: 'fixed',
padding: '1em',

});

$(window).scroll(function() {
if($(this).scrollTop() > 100) {
$('#blog-pager-box').fadeIn();
} else {
$('#blog-pager-box').fadeOut();
}
});
});
$(document).ready(function(){
var newerLink = $("a.blog-pager-newer-link").attr("href");
$("a.blog-pager-newer-link").load(newerLink+" .post-title:first", function() {
var newerLinkTitle = $("a.blog-pager-newer-link:first").text();
$(".blog-pager-newer-link").html("<div>Newer Posts:</div>" + newerLinkTitle);
});
var olderLink = $("a.blog-pager-older-link").attr("href");
$("a.blog-pager-older-link").load(olderLink+" .post-title:first", function() {
var olderLinkTitle = $("a.blog-pager-older-link").text();
$(".blog-pager-older-link").html("<div>Older Posts:</div>" + olderLinkTitle);
});
});

text-decoration:none !important;
color:#4898B9; /* Color for the "Newer Posts" and "Older Posts" text */
}
-->
</style>
</b:if>

Note that this gadget uses jQuery, so try to have only one version.

Customization:

- There are three URLs in blue, the first is the paper background image for the box, the other two are the icons that correspond to the arrows. You can replace these with your own.
- In green you can see where to change the text colors.
- The red number is the distance in pixels that activates the gadget, this means that the box will appear when you scroll down the 100px. You can use a higher value if your posts are usually long and therefore the "height" of the scroll is greater.

Step 4. Now, Save the Template and that's it!

You can also change the "Older Posts" and "Newer Posts" links with posts titles or images.

New Blogger Widget: Contact form - Change Style & Install in a Static Page

Posted by Unknown

Just a few days ago, Blogger introduced a new widget. It is about a contact form that you can add to your blog easily. It is very basic, because - at least for now, does not permit incorporating files or send anything other than plain text.

The contact form for Blogger has the following features:
  • Field for the user name
  • Field for email
  • Field for the message (textarea)
  • Submit Button
Screenshot
contact form, blogger gadgets, static page
 The design is simple and the text colors inherit the section where you add it. At the moment, this widget has no configuration options and is not available for dynamic views.

How to Add Contact Form to Blogger

To add it to your blog, just select the Layout tab, then click on Add a gadget in the section you want to show, for example, in the sidebar. Then, select the More gadgets tab and add the Contact Form gadget.

Styling Contact Form

As the background is transparent, the form will integrate well, aesthetically speaking, but nevertheless it is easy to modify using Style Sheets (CSS) to the appropriate selectors. Here's an example:

/* Contact Form Container */
.contact-form-widget {
width: 500px;
max-width: 100%;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 10px;
background: #F8F8F8;
color: #000;
border: 1px solid #C1C1C1;
box-shadow: 0 1px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.25);
border-radius: 10px;
}

/* Fields and submit button */
.contact-form-name, .contact-form-email, .contact-form-email-message {
width: 100%;
max-width: 100%;
margin-bottom: 10px;
}

/* Submit button style */
.contact-form-button-submit {
border-color: #C1C1C1;
background: #E3E3E3;
color: #585858;
width: 20%;
max-width: 20%;
margin-bottom: 10px;
}

/* Submit button on mouseover */
.contact-form-button-submit:hover{
background: #4C8EF9;
color: #ffffff;
border: 1px solid #FAFAFA;
}

This is how it will look like after applying the style:
contact form, blogger gadgets, contact form for blogger

To add this style, go to Template > Edit HTML, click on the sideways arrow next to <b:skin>...</b:skin> and paste the code just above ]]></b:skin> (press CTRL + F to find it):

How To Add Contact Form In A Static Page

First step is to add the Contact Form gadget (Layout) and second, to edit the template (Template > Edit HTML) to remove most of the gadget. You have to search for the id "ContactForm", expand the widget by clicking on the black arrow on the left (same with the includable) and then delete the part that I have colored in red (see below):

Part to be removed:

  <b:widget id='ContactForm1' locked='false' title='Contact Form' type='ContactForm'>
    <b:includable id='main'>
  <b:if cond='data:title != &quot;&quot;'>
    <h2 class='title'><data:title/></h2>
  </b:if>
  <div class='contact-form-widget'>
    <div class='form'>
      <form name='contact-form'>
        <p/>
        <data:contactFormNameMsg/>
        <br/>
        <input class='contact-form-name' expr:id='data:widget.instanceId + &quot;_contact-form-name&quot;' name='name' size='30' type='text' value=''/>
        <p/>
        <data:contactFormEmailMsg/> <span style='font-weight: bolder;'>*</span>
        <br/>
        <input class='contact-form-email' expr:id='data:widget.instanceId + &quot;_contact-form-email&quot;' name='email' size='30' type='text' value=''/>
        <p/>
        <data:contactFormMessageMsg/> <span style='font-weight: bolder;'>*</span>
        <br/>
        <textarea class='contact-form-email-message' cols='25' expr:id='data:widget.instanceId + &quot;_contact-form-email-message&quot;' name='email-message' rows='5'/>
        <p/>
        <input class='contact-form-button contact-form-button-submit' expr:id='data:widget.instanceId + &quot;_contact-form-submit&quot;' expr:value='data:contactFormSendMsg' type='button'/>
        <p/>
        <div style='text-align: center; max-width: 222px; width: 100%'>
          <p class='contact-form-error-message' expr:id='data:widget.instanceId + &quot;_contact-form-error-message&quot;'/>
          <p class='contact-form-success-message' expr:id='data:widget.instanceId + &quot;_contact-form-success-message&quot;'/>
        </div>
      </form>
    </div>
  </div>
  <b:include name='quickedit'/>

</b:includable>
  </b:widget>

After you have saved the template, go to Pages and paste the following code into a new blank page with the title you want:

 <div class='widget ContactForm' id='ContactForm1'>
  <div class='contact-form-widget'>
    <div class='form'>
      <form name='contact-form'>
        <p>Name<p>
        <input class='contact-form-name' id='ContactForm1_contact-form-name' name='name' size='30' type='text' value=''/>
        <p>E-mail *</p>
        <input class='contact-form-email' id='ContactForm1_contact-form-email' name='email' size='30' type='text' value=''/>
        <p>Message *</p>
        <textarea class='contact-form-email-message' cols='25' id='ContactForm1_contact-form-email-message' name='email-message' rows='5'></textarea>
        <input class='contact-form-button contact-form-button-submit' id='ContactForm1_contact-form-submit' type='button' value='Submit'/>
        <p class='contact-form-error-message' id='ContactForm1_contact-form-error-message'></p>
        <p class='contact-form-success-message' id='ContactForm1_contact-form-success-message'></p>
      </form>
    </div>
  </div>
</div>

Messages will be sent to the same email that you have registered in Blogger.

Here's a demo page where you can test it (it is an account that I don't use, so don't expect reply).

That's it! If you have any questions or comments please post below.

How to Optimize the Website for Bing?

Posted by Unknown

When it comes to doing SEO for Google then we get loads of articles, blog posts and other content on how we can optimize the website and get better rankings and traffic. But when it comes to optimizing the website for Bing then we have very less information from people on internet or World Wide Web (WWW).

Recently, Duane Forrester Senior Product Manager of Bing’s Webmaster Program organized a webinar on crawling basics. In this webinar he described factors Bing considers important before ranking any website for a particular search term.

Here is the summary of Bing crawling basics webinar describing important ranking factors for Bing:

  • Content is King: A lot of fresh and unique content is important for crawlers of Bing.
  • XML Sitemaps and RSS Feeds: Bing insists on using error free sitemap.xml. XML sitemap should not have URLs leading to 404 pages; Bingbot might ignore whole sitemap if it finds even one URL leading to 404 errors. RSS feeds are more important for Bing, by RSS feeds Bingbot will get update about latest content coming on website.
  • Robots.txt: In a survey conducted by Bing they found that most of the websites which Bingbot cannot crawl don’t have correct robots.txt file. They found that these websites have blocked crawlers from indexing the websites. So, check your robots.txt before doing SEO for the website.
  • Bounce Rate: Bing also considers bounce rate as a major ranking factor. Create Horizontal Navigation Menu With Drop Down Submenus Using CSS

Posted by Unknown

The following drop down menu is made only with CSS, is a horizontal menu with sub-tabs and the right side has a rounded search. A menu is handy for those who do not require complex menus or prefer not to use one that requires scripts and/or too many images, also the installation and customization is quite simple, and to top it off is quite functional.

To see this drop down menu in action, visit this demo blog

blogger menu, drop down menu, css menu

Prior to doing anything, if you are using a Template made through Blogger Template Designer, then you should consider doing these changes in the template, otherwise the menu might not be displayed correctly:

From your Blogger's Dashboard, go to Template (make a backup < see the screenshot) > Edit HTML:

and search (CTRL + F) for the following line:

<b:section class='tabs' id='crosscol' maxwidgets='1' showaddelement='yes'>

Screenshot

Remove the code in red.
You may have many parts as the one in red, delete all you find.

....then find this section in your template:
/* Tabs
----------------------------------------------- */

...and remove all that is within it, until you reach to the Headings part.

/* Tabs
----------------------------------------------- */
.tabs-outer {
overflow: hidden;
position: relative;
background: $(tabs.background.color) $(tabs.background.gradient) repeat scroll 0 0;
}

#layout .tabs-outer {
overflow: visible;
}

.tabs-cap-top, .tabs-cap-bottom {
position: absolute;
width: 100%;

border-top: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);

}

.tabs-cap-bottom {
bottom: 0;
}

.tabs-inner .widget li a {
display: inline-block;

margin: 0;
padding: .6em 1.5em;

font: $(tabs.font);
color: $(tabs.text.color);

border-top: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
border-bottom: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
border-$startSide: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
}

.tabs-inner .widget li:last-child a {
border-$endSide: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
}

.tabs-inner .widget li.selected a, .tabs-inner .widget li a:hover {
background: $(tabs.selected.background.color) $(tabs.background.gradient) repeat-x scroll 0 -100px;
color: $(tabs.selected.text.color);
}

/* Headings
----------------------------------------------- */

Then add this to where the code has been removed (instead of the code in green):
#crosscol ul {z-index: 200; padding:0 !important;}
#crosscol li:hover {position:relative;}
#crosscol ul li {padding:0 !important;}
.tabs-outer {z-index:1;}
.tabs .widget ul, .tabs .widget ul {overflow: visible;}
Having done this, we can finally add our menu.

<!-- Search Bar -->
<li>
<form action='/search' id='search' method='get' name='searchForm' style='display:inline;'>
<input id='search-box' name='q' onblur='if (this.value == &quot;&quot;) this.value = &quot;Search here...&quot;;' onfocus='if (this.value == &quot;Search here...&quot;) this.value = &quot;&quot;;' size='28' type='text' value='Search here...'/></form>
</li>

</ul>
</div>

Customization:

- replace the text in blue and red with your links and titles.
- if you need more tabs, then add a line like this just above <!-- Search Bar -->

<li class="top"><a href="Link URL" class="top_link"><span>Title</span></a></li>

- if you want to add a tab with sub-tabs, then add this code:

<li class="top"><a href="Link URL" class="top_link"><span class="down">Title</span></a>
<ul class="sub">
<li><a href="Link URL">Submenu Title</a></li>
<li><a href="Link URL">Submenu Title</a></li>
<li><a href="Link URL">Submenu Title</a></li>
</ul>
</li>

- and if you want one of the other sub-tabs have sub-tabs then remove a line like the one in orange and change it to a code like this:

<li><a href="Link URL" class="fly">Submenu Title</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="Link URL">Other Submenu</a></li>
<li><a href="Link URL">Other Submenu</a></li>
<li><a href="Link URL">Other Submenu</a></li>
</ul>
</li>

And that's it! Now Save your Widget and enjoy your new drop down menu! ;)

How To Use The New Blogger HTML Editor

Posted by Unknown

The Blogger template editor now includes a number of changes that seem interesting and make it much more friendly than it was.

To begin with, what we see now is all the template's code starting with numbered and colored lines showing us different code snippets: tags, variables, properties, etc.. depending on the HTML, CSS, JavaScript and even the language of Blogger - include, b:if and other occurrences.

blogger template, blogger tricks, blogger widgets

This is what any decent external editor does, but certainly, from now on it will be much easier to find that little bug that drives us crazy when we omit quotation marks or add one more semicolon. This also applies to CSS, which appears mostly in dark blue without distinguishing selectors and rules, but the rest is a major improvement.

Another great help are the numbers that appear in front of each fragment of code, so that we can easily pinpoint and correct errors of this type: "Error parsing XML, line 103, column 9: The element ... "

Using the New Blogger Template HTML Editor

When you want to search for a code in the HTML editor, click inside the editor and press CTRL + F on your keyboard, then enter what you want to find in the search box that appears inside the editor.

Finally, hit the "ENTER" button on your keyboard and it should take you to the requested code.

If you want to be taken to the section of code that belongs to a particular widget, just click on the Jump To Widget button at the top of the editor, choose the widget's name from the list and it will take you directly to that portion of code.

The CSS rules can be found folded at the top of the template, between <b:skin>...</b:skin> and <b:template-skin>...</b:template-skin> tags. To expand them, you have to click on the sideways arrow next to the line number.

Another great functionality is that now we can Preview Template in the same window without needing to leave the page and we can easily go back to customize our template by clicking on the Edit Template button.

Finally, Format template re-orders the code, adding indentation automatically.

As always, we must use the Save button for the changes to take effect or we can Revert the changes.

And that's it. With a bit of effort, we can easily familiarize with this new HTML editor. Surely as usual and even reasonable to be something inherent in the human condition, this change does not appeal to many. Same with the Lightbox for images, the new template designer, the new desktop and other new things that have been added in the past. But who now remembers that they once were new?

Show Recent Posts With Thumbnails For Particular Label or Category in Blogger

Posted by Unknown

Sometimes we want to have everything organized so that our readers can find topics of interest more easily, and that's when instead of putting a widget with the latest posts, we can put together the latest entries sorted by category, so that we'll be able to show the latest posts for each label we want and also display a thumbnail for our category.

recent posts, blogger widgets, blogger gadgets
Screenshot

To add this cool gadget/widget for the latest categories, just follow the next steps:

Steps

Step 1. From your Blogger Dashboard, go to Template/Edit HTML

...then tick the Expand Widget Templates checkbox:

Step 2. Search for this piece of code:

]]></b:skin>

and just above it, paste this one:

/* Recent posts by labels
--------------------------------- */
img.label_thumb{
float:left;
margin-right:10px !important;
height:65px; /* Thumbnail height */
width:65px; /* Thumbnail width */
border: 1px solid #fff;
-webkit-border-radius: 10px;
-moz-border-radius: 10px;
border-radius: 10px;
-webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px rgba(0, 0, 0, .4);
-moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px rgba(0, 0, 0, .4);
box-shadow: 0 1px 1px rgba(0, 0, 0, .4);
}

.label_with_thumbs {
float: left;
width: 100%;
min-height: 70px;
margin: 0px 10px 2px 0px;
padding: 0;
}
ul.label_with_thumbs li {
padding:8px 0;
min-height:65px;
margin-bottom:0px;
border-bottom: 1px dotted #999999;
}

.label_with_thumbs li{
list-style: none ;
padding-left:0px !important;
}

.label_with_thumbs a { text-transform: uppercase;}
.label_with_thumbs strong {padding-left:0px; }

Step 3. Now search for this tag (CTRL + F)

</head>

...and add the following script above it:

<script type='text/javascript'>
//<![CDATA[
function labelthumbs(json){document.write('<ul class="label_with_thumbs">');for(var i=0;i<numposts;i++){var entry=json.feed.entry[i];var posttitle=entry.title.$t;var posturl;if(i==json.feed.entry.length)break;for(var k=0;k<entry.link.length;k++){if(entry.link[k].rel=='replies'&&entry.link[k].type=='text/html'){var commenttext=entry.link[k].title;var commenturl=entry.link[k].href;}
if(entry.link[k].rel=='alternate'){posturl=entry.link[k].href;break;}}var thumburl;try{thumburl=entry.media$thumbnail.url;}catch(error)
{s=entry.content.$t;a=s.indexOf("<img");b=s.indexOf("src=\"",a);c=s.indexOf("\"",b+5);d=s.substr(b+5,c-b-5);if((a!=-1)&&(b!=-1)&&(c!=-1)&&(d!="")){thumburl=d;}else thumburl='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibRG222UAfMWrON2uWFItTqGJNhJoeNGNy2dI72nG7D8vUcSqmZP5oFsLClpkrk6wT22MvM3i0spW9fEzWqmD2QhyphenhyphenUJHJzGrCxYKYdHEDmuxcvJdOCpo6bLGY2ngCGRqT_2W3ZtmmdBes/s1600/picture_not_available.png';}
var postdate=entry.published.$t;var cdyear=postdate.substring(0,4);var cdmonth=postdate.substring(5,7);var cdday=postdate.substring(8,10);var monthnames=new Array();monthnames[1]="Jan";monthnames[2]="Feb";monthnames[3]="Mar";monthnames[4]="Apr";monthnames[5]="May";monthnames[6]="June";monthnames[7]="July";monthnames[8]="Aug";monthnames[9]="Sept";monthnames[10]="Oct";monthnames[11]="Nov";monthnames[12]="Dec";document.write('<li class="clearfix">');if(showpostthumbnails==true)
document.write('<a href="'+posturl+'" target ="_top"><img class="label_thumb" src="'+thumburl+'"/></a>');document.write('<strong><a href="'+posturl+'" target ="_top">'+posttitle+'</a></strong><br>');if("content"in entry){var postcontent=entry.content.$t;}
else
if("summary"in entry){var postcontent=entry.summary.$t;}
else var postcontent="";var re=/<\S[^>]*>/g;postcontent=postcontent.replace(re,"");if(showpostsummary==true){if(postcontent.length<numchars){document.write('');document.write(postcontent);document.write('');}
else{document.write('');postcontent=postcontent.substring(0,numchars);var quoteEnd=postcontent.lastIndexOf(" ");postcontent=postcontent.substring(0,quoteEnd);document.write(postcontent+'...');document.write('');}}
var towrite='';var flag=0;document.write('<br>');if(showpostdate==true){towrite=towrite+monthnames[parseInt(cdmonth,10)]+'-'+cdday+' - '+cdyear;flag=1;}
if(showcommentnum==true)
{if(flag==1){towrite=towrite+' | ';}
if(commenttext=='1 Comments')commenttext='1 Comment';if(commenttext=='0 Comments')commenttext='No Comments';commenttext='<a href="'+commenturl+'" target ="_top">'+commenttext+'</a>';towrite=towrite+commenttext;flag=1;;}
if(displaymore==true)
{if(flag==1)towrite=towrite+' | ';towrite=towrite+'<a href="'+posturl+'" class="url" target ="_top">More »</a>';flag=1;;}
document.write(towrite);document.write('</li>');if(displayseparator==true)
if(i!=(numposts-1))
document.write('');}document.write('</ul>');}
//]]>
</script>

Note: to add your own pic for the posts with no thumbnail, replace the image url in blue with your own

So we have added the Css to style the widget and the script to make it work. Now all we have to do is to add the widget's code to the blog sidebar in a Html/Javascript gadget:

Step 4. Go to Layout - click on Add a Gadget

Step 5. Choose the HTML/Javascript widget and paste this code inside the empty box:

<script type='text/javascript'>var numposts = 3;var showpostthumbnails = true;var displaymore = false;var displayseparator = true;var showcommentnum = false;var showpostdate = false;var showpostsummary = true;var numchars = 100;</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/feeds/posts/default/-/Name-of-the-label?published&alt=json-in-script&callback=labelthumbs"></script>

Note: Where it says Name-of-the-label is the name of the label you want to display, and if your label is case sensitive, like in my example, then you should type it that way.

Also within the last code, there are parts that we can customize, just change true with false or vice versa:

var numposts ← Number of posts to display
var showpostthumbnails ← Show/hide thumbnails
var displaymore ← Show or hide the read more link
var displayseparator ← Show/hide separator
var showcommentnum ← Show/hide the number of comments
var showpostdate ← Show/hide the posts dates
var showpostsummary ← Show or not the posts summaries
var numchars ← Number of posts characters (here you have to change the 100 value)

Remember that the gadget displays the latest posts from a particular label, therefore, if you want to display the latest posts from other labels then just repeat step 5 for each additional category you want to add.

That's it :) Enjoy!

There are several tutorials quite old which have explained different methods for displaying related posts in Blogger [1] [2] but in this tutorial, I will show you how to implement a very beautiful Related Posts widget that comes along with Thumbnails and Posts Snippets, as well. If you want to add it, follow the next steps below:

How to Add Related Posts Widget with Summary to Blogger

Step 1. From your Blogger Dashboard, go to Template and click on Edit HTML

Step 2. Tick the "Expand Widget Templates" checkbox:
 Step 3. Find (CTRL + F) this tag:

</head>

...and paste the following code just above it:
<script type='text/javascript'>
//<![CDATA[
var relatedTitles = new Array();
var relatedUrls = new Array();
var relatedpSummary = new Array();
var relatedThumb = new Array();
var relatedTitlesNum = 0;

var relatedPostsNum = 4; // number of entries to be shown
var relatedmaxnum = 75; // the number of characters of summary
var relatednoimage = "https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS3y6gMMMSou1ENPmRmmk4uSlQNtAvGvI40nxafZ7id6Ku_ezNuMOiaCv_0w6rA_rE2MC1u4soFJbl4vq6LltUfjUgfDXOIqsC19mm4bX4wb_BNIUbHlivkHWw71cY7hMsXVoSEhm_OhmX/s1600/no_image.jpg"; // default picture for entries with no image

Step 4. Search (CTRL + F) for the following fragment:

<a expr:href='data:label.url' rel='tag'><data:label.name/></a><b:if cond='data:label.isLast != &quot;true&quot;'>,</b:if>

... and add this code just below it:

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
    <script expr:src='&quot;/feeds/posts/default/-/&quot; + data:label.name + &quot;?alt=json-in-script&amp;callback=readpostlabels&amp;max-results=50&quot;' type='text/javascript'/>
  </b:if>

The entire fragment should look like this:

          <b:loop values='data:post.labels' var='label'>
            <a expr:href='data:label.url' rel='tag'><data:label.name/></a><b:if cond='data:label.isLast != &quot;true&quot;'>,</b:if>
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
    <script expr:src='&quot;/feeds/posts/default/-/&quot; + data:label.name + &quot;?alt=json-in-script&amp;callback=readpostlabels&amp;max-results=50&quot;' type='text/javascript'/>
  </b:if>

          </b:loop>

Step 5. Find this fragment of code:

</b:includable>
<b:includable id='postQuickEdit' var='post'>

Note: if you can't find it, then search only for the code in red

! Click on the sideways arrow to expand the code, then scroll down until you reach to the highlighted line !

...add just ABOVE it, add the following:

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
  <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-4'>
    <div id='relatedpostssum'><div style='text-align: left; font-size: 15px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold;'>RELATED POSTS</div>
      <script type='text/javascript'>showrelated();</script>
    </div>
    <div style='clear:both;'/>
  </div>
</b:if>
